Q: How exactly does the BMW Steptronic work?
I am looking into the new 2008 BMW 135i. But I’m a little confused with the steptronic transmission. With the steptronic transmission option, is the car at all like a manual car (i.e clutch, manual shifting without using the steering wheel)? My friend had a 2003 BMW 330Li that was an automatic, but had the Tiptronic so he COULD shift manually if he wanted to. Is the new BMW 135i going to be an automatic first, manual second? I want a standard manual car with the OPTION to use the steering wheel to shift (without the clutch), but I want it to be a manual car First. And what is the difference between Tiptronic and Steptronic? Thanks.
A: First of all Steptronic IS the automatic. You merely “row” through the automatic gears. It will hold the car in first (or any other gear) for as long as you want until you push/pull the gear shift into the next gear. Almost all automatic cars have this feature in one shape or form.
BMW has BASICALLY two manual type transmissions. One is the common manual where you have to depress a clutch, grab a shift lever, move the lever and let the clutch back up.
The other type is SMG (or sequential manual gearbox). It IS a true manual transmission with clutch, gears, etc. However the drive does NOT have to press on a clutch pedal (which is non-existant on an SMG). Moving one of the two paddle shifters on the steering wheel will automatically trigger servos that disengage/engage the clutch.
SMG was developed from Formula 1 racing.
Once again, Steptronic is an automatic transmission that you either leave in auto mode or “play like you have a manual transmission”. SMG is a true manual transmission.
If anyone doubts this, Google SMG or go to a BMW website or any other car manufacturer that has their varient of SMG.
Q: BMW CAR DECISION!!! 1 series vs 3 series?
Okay so im a 16 year old male and im looking for a car for my last year in highschool and for university. I LIVE IN CANADA
I went to the dealer and the bmw dealer said he would check if he could buy a used 2007 bmw 328i from USA and send it over here to TORONTO CANADA because its cheaper there. So basically we agreed on the a 2007 328i for $650 monthy for leasing because we had a 10,000 fine/debt. But the dealer said that he will return our money deposit if we decide to change our mind.
So my question is should i stay with the 2007 328i sedan for 650 monthy, OR get the 2007 bmw 128i or the 135i coupe???
When i went to the dealer with my dad we both were deciding on buying the 1 series but somehow he convinced us to buy the 328i.
I personally prefer the 1 series so what do you think?
Ryan you got your sources wrong. The 1 series came out on sale on November of 2007. Do some research before you comment
A: Personally I like the 3 series over the 1 series, and the 238i is plenty powerful enough. I prefer the 3 because it is a bit bigger, and more comfortable. And for the record, the first year for the 1 series was 2008, sources checked.
Q: CAR DECISION HELP!!! BMW?

A: get the one you prefer, the 1 series.
just remember, you will probably have a devil of a time dealing with all the expensive minor problems that may show up. Maintaining and fixing it will probably be really expensive and you still have to pay for it
Q: Do any BMW Films use a BMW 128i?
I am a big BMW fan and I am saving up to buy a 128i or 135i and I wanted to watch it in action in a BMW Film. Can anyone help me out?
A: You can watch it in action here:

Q: I am buying a new car, Under 60k Canadian. Suggestions?
I’m looking at new vehicles and am soliciting advice and/or opinions. My absolute hard limit is 60 000$ Canadian and I would prefer to be below this. I would mention monthly payments, but that would be a bit misleading considering we would end up at different payments based upon different credit ratings etc…
Though it seems clichĂ© to say I want a ” fast ” car… I am looking at performance vehicles in what might be termed the ” sport ” class. I present my two current leaders as far as picks go, but I should emphasize that I am interested in other options as well, especially if they have the same features that appeal to me in the listed cars. Also, I am currently looking at new vehicles. I am aware that they depreciate extremely fast, however they also come with brand new warranties and I want the peace of mind that comes from purchasing something I know just rolled out of the factory.
Current Picks :
BMW 135i Coupé.
* Sport Package, Premium Sound Package, Comfort Package, Premium Package. Couple other things. Total Price on Canadian Site: 55 600$
Basic Stats: 6 Speed Steptronic, 3.0 L Straight 6, 300 Hp, 300 lb-ft of Torque. RWD.
Why I like it: Has awesome looks, I like the straight 6 since it is a naturally balanced engine. BMW definitely has name recognition, both as a status thing but also for myself. I have driven an older 325i extensively and I really enjoy it. It is quick as hell from all reports that I’ve read, but a quick brush along the specs sheets show that they [BMW] pay a ton of attention to the little things in an automobile. It definitely fits has the ” luxury ” bit covered. Did I mention it looks killer?

Chevrolet Camaro, 2SS,
* Rally Sport Package, Some Stuff. Total Price on Canadian Site: 46 115$
Basic Stats: 6 Speed Manual or 6 Speed Steptronic, 6.2L V8, 426 Hp, 420 lb-ft of Torque. RWD
Why I like it: Absolutely great styling. To be honest, the movies (the car is used in Transformers) have given me an appreciation for the vehicle since I get to see it moving around. It is for sure a big noisy power car… I can appreciate that. The interior looks amazing. I suppose what I really like best is the styling.

Thank for any suggestions you guys might have, I would appreciate any reasoning behind your picks as well. On a more personal note, this is my inaugural yahoo answers question.
A: In my opinion the BMW is a much better option. They are excellent cars and come with free maintenance. I have had nothing but problems with everything from General Motors and I am sure that I am not the only one. That is why they are in bankruptcy. Another one you might consider is the Lexus IS F.
Q: Which car should I buy?
I just graduated and recently got a good bump in pay, I am looking for something around 40k anything a little over is no problem. Unfortunately, I am stuck between a few candidates; Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, BMW 135i coupe, and Nissan 370Z. I am in no rush but am leaning towards the X, any advice would be great.
I want something brand new so please don’t post that I should consider other faster, cheaper, or used options. I want something currently in style, flashy, and fast from the get-go.
Key things that I am looking for:
-I live where it snows year-round so AWD is a plus
-Quick on the get-go and modifiability
-In style, flashy and flamboyant =)
A: Lexus there is nothing better on the road than a Lexus!
Q: Which car should I choose out of these two?
I have an option of getting either a 2007 BMW Z4M or a 2008/9 BMW 135i.
Z4M is “classier” and gives more of a “sporty” drive.
1 Series will cost less in the longrun to maintain, and is faster if modded. It’s also a more practical car for daily use.
The car will be a daily car. I fell in love with the Z4M and was dead set on getting it, but then someone advised me to think about the 135i or 335i instead, and since then, I’ve been split. (335i is out of my budget x])
A: I believe you should choose the BMW Z4M it looks better and I understand why you fell in love with it its a beaut so good luck but choose what you want more don’t rely on anyone else not even me.
P.S: Im 14 years old and new at this so if you don’t like my answer please give me some feedback
Q: What would be the best car for me given the following information. (Under 35k)?
The first real car I owned (not counting the initial POS) was a 1997 Camaro z-28. I drove the crap outa that car until the day its life came to a tragic end, shortly after meeting the side of a bridge (Young and reckless).
I then bought a 1999 Honda Prelude which I still own to this day. Although its still running strong (and undamaged), 10 years is a long time to be staring at the same interior.
I am going to treat myself to a new ride, but stick with the sporty styled cars.
My top 5 choices right now (in this order)
-370z (I think i may be able to make due with 2 seats)
-Evo X Gsr (if the dealership will swap out the trunk/spoiler with a base lancer so i can go wingless without having nasty hole plugs)
-135i (Prob to pricey and i would have to get it bare boned)
-2010 Camaro (to support GM and go back to my first car to redeem myself)
-something used with low miles (but there is always the risk that you buy a lemon or some dogged out vette)
I want something fun to drive where feel and handling take precedence over raw power, i think i would feel awkward driving a bmw because of the aura around the name and the “showoffishness.” Interior doesnt have to be amazing, but I like that cockpit feel where the car is built around the driver alone.
Any help on any of these cars if you own them or on any used car suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Also must be a MT and I am not a huge fan of hatchbacks. The inside room may be an issue i am 6′1.
A: Darn, if you were ever in the market for a hatchback, a VW GTi would be the perfect choice for you- the name isn’t showoffy, but it’s fast, fun to drive, has great handling, and a really high quality interior.
Have you looked at the Audi A4, Lexus IS, Infiniti G35, or the Cadillac CTS? They’re great options, and if you talked the dealer down, you could definitely get one new under 35k (i’ve seen them sold for around 28-30). All are wonderful cars (The A4 and the IS are my favorites). They’re fast, but still have good torque and great handling, they’re stylish, and you feel like a million bucks driving it
I think out of your choices, the Z seems like the best choice, but because of your height is a bit small. Have you also looked at the Honda Accord V6 Coupe? Its a bit bigger, and still fun to drive.
Test drive all the cars you can before you buy it, thats the one thing i learned, and if you have major doubts just WALK AWAY
. The 2010 Camaro still has about 8-12 months before its released, so you might wanna wait to test drive it

A: I prefer BMW 1 series. It has long bonnet, the muscular front and wide rear makes it coupe look impressive…

A: Go for the 328i sedan. You’re insurance should be lower than with the 328i because its a four-door and a “family car”. Either way the 135i and 328i have about the same range of horsepower, its just that the 328 is more luxurious.
